Cynthia Mercatti

You don't know how much your letter meant to me.I'm going through a rough time emotionally, and to hear how much your students have put into a play I love, is so, so gratifying. Everything you've told me, makes me think I need to write a play about the putting on of a play. How wonderful for the girls and the guys to realize what women went through - and in many countries, are still going through. My mother was born before women could vote, she's 93 and was born in 1916, I often think of that. Hilary Clinton's run for the presidency meant a great deal to her. You certainly will have stiff competition, with Wit and Shakespeare.Like the Italian girl in the play - I'm Italian - I will say a Rosary for you that day. A funny thing, several years I was touring in one m y own shows for young people and we went to a school in the far reaches of Iowa. One of the kids came up to me after and said that was the second best play he'd ever seen. When I asked him what the firs play was, he said, Hamlet. There was so much to respond to you in your letter, the tragedy, the hope, the learning, the acting awards - everything. I'm keeping up a commentary with my script writer's group on your process. You don't have to do this, but - if you have the time, do you think you could drop a letter or e-mail to Linda Habjan at Dramatic Publishing? I'm hoping it might get the play a little more attention in thecatalogue and that they might even use a few pictures. Thanks, all the best - to everyone, Cynthia
